I decided yesterday to install a clean Mac OS X 10.8.2 in an Virtual Environment for my Ruby on Rails development. I will explain how i install my dev environment for Ruby on Rails. I will use the RubyMine IDE, Git, AWS Beanstalk, MongoDB and TeamCity as an CI Server. But the installation of the CI server is not part of this post. It will follow later how i installed it on AWS EC2.

  • Install Git
  • Install Homebrew
    • Link to Website
    • The following installation script explains what it will do and then pauses before it does it.

  • Install Apple GCC 4.2

Now, we will to create a gem config file to suppress the ri and rdoc documentation in .gemrc. (nano is my texteditor in the terminal, you may use vim or some other tool, replace it) and add the following into the file

and check if this version is really installed :)

  •  Install MongoDB

  • Install MongoDB GUI Tool
  • Install MongoDB PrefPane
  • Install the RubyMine IDE (30 Trial)
    • Download Link for Mac OS Version
